Week 4 ~ February 15 -19

This week we commenced Literacy Groups. At the moment we are learning the routines as to how this operates in 3WS this year. On Wednesdays and Fridays this needs to be a short session due to our Specialist Lessons. I will send out a note asking for Parent Helpers early next week. Every child has read and responded to their shared text. All students have written a narrative, explored punctuation (fullstops, capital letters and talking marks) and looked at different letter combinations to represent the 'f' for feather sound.
All children completed a Maths Test online and have been learning more about length. The children are enjoying Mental Maths and are especially proud of their improvements in speed and accuracy with the 2 x tables. Thanks for your assistance with this. All students have their Mathletics usernames and passwords and I will be setting home tasks as well as showing them more features within Mathletics. Tables Toons are quite a good way to drill times tables!
We continue to talk about and model RESPECT and how this looks within our classroom and school. The children have all had a turn looking after the school chickens, some more enthusiastically than others.
Year 3/4 Sport is now on Monday during the last session. We have the Looking After ME program commencing this Thursday 25th February during the first sessions. This is facilitated by Hawthorn Football Club and the SEDA program. There are 3 sessions, all on Thursdays at the same time for the 3 & 4 classes.
SRC badges will be presented at Thursday's Assembly. Congratulations to Lena and Julian. The Welcome Picnic is to be held on Friday 26th February commencing at 5:30. Here's hoping the school oval is finished!

Week 3 ~ February 8 - 12

We have had a great week! It was really nice to meet so many parents at the Year 3/4 Information Evening on Tuesday night. Thank you to those who attended.
We had evacuation and lockdown drills this week. All children responded well to instructions and knew exactly what to do for these drills.
I have finished assessing all students' spelling this week. We have also completed some Mental Maths tasks to work out where each child is at.
The children enjoyed making and eating Pancakes on Pancake Day. Next week I'm hoping to make dumplings with the children.
On Thursday, we went to Library and the children used the iPick strategy to choose 'just right' books. This year each child can borrow up to 6 books from the Library.
Today we had a visit from Rachel. She showed the class presentation on First Aid. Please expect some discussion on this over the weekend.
Thank you to the children who had their All About Me boxes ready today. We will present these next week.
Happy Birthday to Julian!
We will be holding SRC speeches on Monday. I am looking forward to listening to these.
Also next week, Hawthorn is coming to OOPS on Thursday for the first of 3 sessions of its 'Looking after ME' program.
Have a great weekend. :-)
